Karigurashi no Arrietty (The Borrower Arrietty) is Studio Ghibli's (studio founded by Hayao Miyazaki) latest title that premiered in Japan in July 2010. Based off a children's fantasy novel by Mary Norton, the story follows little people living under the floorboards of houses who secretly borrow items from humans living in the house in order to survive. One day, a young boy discovers their existence. Unlike the original fantasy novel, the film adaptation takes place in modern-day Japan rather than in 1950s England.

Before kicking off with our main lineup this semester, we will be showing a variety of first episodes of series this weekend, including but not limited to Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist), The Tower of Druaga -the AEGIS of URUK-, Cross Game, and Natsume Yuujinchou. These titles will not be a part of the set of series we plan to show this year, BUT are relatively lengthy and/or decent titles that many anime viewers may have missed over the past few years. We will also be providing free pizza during the meeting.

Conventions Update
New York Anime Festival/Comic-Con is the arguably the 3rd largest anime and comic convention in the US and this year it will take place from October 13 to October 16 located at Jacob Javits Center in NYC. We will be going on the Friday October 14 and returning on October 16. As usual, we cover transportation and registration fees but not hotels sadly. We have not booked hotels or registration yet and will not do either until we have met a minimum attendance AND received all necessary payment. At the moment we expect hotels to range anywhere from $50 (if you don't mind having 5-10 people rooming in one room) to $130 depending on where we stay, how many rooms we book, and how many people go. We will likely require a minimum of 5 or 6 and can take a max of 10. As a down payment we will request the minimum deposit of $60. Once hotels are booked, you're down payment will be forfeited  we may ask to collect any additional payments to help cover any additional hotel fees. Any leftovers will be returned to you. We will begin collecting money immediately on a first come first serve basis. We will make a final decision on whether or not we will go by Saturday September 24, 2011. Please note that if hotels completely fill up during this duration, we will cancel the trip and refund any money that was turned over.
